If a recurring donation fails due to a problem with the credit card (ex: insufficient funds or an expired card), Donorbox will automatically retry the donation charge 3 days after the initial donation attempt. If unsuccessful, our system will reattempt the charge again (3 days after the last attempt). After three attempts, any attempt to charge the card will completely cease. For example, if a monthly donation charged on the 10th of the month fails, Donorbox will retry the donation on the 13th and the 16th.
From the initial donation attempt, there is a 10-day period where the donor will be able to update their card. If they update the card during this time, the invoice will be charged automatically. If the card is updated after this period, Donorbox will charge the card again the following month on the initial donation date (in the case of the example above, the 10th of the following month).
