You can now track the source of donations by passing UTM parameters to your donation page or your website's embedded page URL. We currently record the following UTM parameters for a donation.
- utm_source
- utm_medium
- utm_campaign
- utm_term
- utm_content
Note: The utm_source parameter has to be present if you want the other UTM parameters to be recorded.
Below are examples showing how to pass the UTM parameters to the donation form:
URL of the website page where the donation form is embedded:
https://www.example.com/donate?utm_source=youtube&utm_medium=youtube&utm_campaign=yb_campaign&utm_term=donate&utm_content=customcontent
Donorbox hosted donation page URL:
https://donorbox.org/mycampaign?utm_source=youtube&utm_medium=youtube&utm_campaign=yb_campaign&utm_term=donate&utm_content=customcontent
When a donor submits a donation, the UTM parameters passed via the URL (as shown in the above examples) are recorded in the donation. You can find the UTM parameters recorded with the donation on the donation detail page. To find these details go to the Donations tab on your dashboard page and click on the donation ID for the donation.
On the next page, you can then click on the Advanced tab:
Additionally, the UTM parameters will also be added to the donations CSV file when exported.
Track the source of the donation with Salesforce
Now that we can track the source of the donation via UTM parameters, you can also export those parameters to your Salesforce account. If you have enabled Salesforce integration, go to the Salesforce Data Mapping page and scroll down to find the UTM parameters, and map it to the Salesforce fields of your choice.
Please feel free to write to us at support@donorbox.org if you have any questions.
